After-School Enrichment

Providing quality after school programming for children in grades K – 5 focused on literacy, leadership, and building the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and experience that prepare students for the present and the future.

After School Enrichment is an after school program offered during the extended school year at Moulton Elementary School (August – June). Daily, After School Enrichment offers literacy enrichment and S.T.E.A.M. activities with recreation and extracurricular activities for grade-school children. Enrollment is currently limited to 45 children as we are in the hiring process for more staff. Volunteers for this program is currently suspended. Virtual Clubs are offered between 3:00 – 4:30 pm to opportunity for hands on learning. Volunteers who have a special interest are welcome for a 6 week virtual session!

After School Enrichment is seen as a safe and welcoming place that promotes learning. During a recent program review, several individuals who were interviewed indicated that After School Enrichment provides a safe place for children while teaching and encouraging them to excel in school. A parent said that the Haven is a safe place and she appreciates that it is free and vacations are covered. A volunteer said, “it is literally a haven in that community.” After School Enrichment also fosters a sense of caring about self and community. Volunteers and parents alike consistently remarked that there is a real emphasis on respect for each other and various races, cultures, and religions. “There is a respectful openness for all,” notes one community volunteer.

The programming at the Haven contains vital components that augment the teaching and learning in school. Academic time occurs in the schedule four out of five days of the school week. Recreational time occurs when the academic time is completed. Clubs for enrichment activities are facilitated by volunteers and staff. Throughout the year there are special recreational/community service opportunities. One of the students noted: “I love reading and writing besides playing outside.” Another said, “Before the Haven, I had never been to the woods and never seen a real giant fish in the river!”
